KGB Agent Exposed!
"NZ just a transit point for KGB Spy..."
"Soviets: He's an impostor..."
"Checks reveal passport
fraud..." "Kadyrov fifth Soviet spy case in past 30
years..."
In the summer of 1991, reports similar to these began to
appear in newspapers throughout the country. For only the fifth time in recent years, the
New Zealand public was confronted with evidence that we are not as isolated from the world
of international espionage as we would like to believe. In addition, we also have our own
'intelligence community', working away quietly to 'protect the state'.
Quickly the story gained momentum, and a series of reports and backgrounders were
broadcast in radio and TV news bulletins. The Soviet Embassy initiated damage control, and
a smiling Ambassador Sokolov appeared on One Network News in an attempt to dismiss the
entire episode as a case of mistaken identity.
Few believed him.
Who was Kadyrov, and how did he spend his time in New Zealand? Where did he live, and how
did he go about creating a new identity for himself?
Some reports mentioned that he was accompanied by a woman. Who was she, and who else did
he have contact with?
SPY! is an entirely fictional account of events which might have led to Anvar Kadyrov's
expulsion from New Zealand. How closely they come to the truth, we will never really know.
